Maija has been in education for over 30 years. She has taught in schools from Alaska to Scotland before she landed at Sedona Charter School. During her career she has worked with children from kindergarten to middle school and loves the independence, humor and insights that she gets to experience daily from her upper elementary students. Maija is an outdoor enthusiast (hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon 15 times!) and shares her love of nature with her students by taking them on annual camping and hiking trips. She has been lucky enough to travel to six continents and uses tales of her travels in spice up her lessons. When she is not in the classroom you'll find her on hiking trails, reading and photographing the beautiful place we call home.

Federal status: Highly Qualified K-8 Teacher

Montessori qualifications: American Montessori Society certified for ages 3-12.  Trained through Mecca-Seton and Montessori Education Center of the Rockies

Arizona certifications: Standard Elementary, K-8
